2. The SIOPE Early Career CTG Involvement (ECCTGI) Mentorship Programme

Coordinating on behalf of Young SIOPE: Erika Pace and Nicolas Herold

Involved Young SIOPE Members: Daniela Di Carlo, Emma Seaford

The setup of the Early Career Involvement – Mentorship programme is currently under revision.

We strongly believe that a mentorship programme, consisting of individual mentee-mentor-couples, can help mentees in developing their career especially in the difficult early stages. It can help mentors as well to interact across generations to improve international collaboration. To be sustainable, each pairing between mentees and mentors will last a minimum of three years.

The aim of the project

To improve the involvement of junior members in the field of paediatric oncology and to facilitate their professional career development by pairing them with a senior member in a mentor-mentee relationship for three years.

The application process with be conducted in the REDCap® online system.

The link with further information will be provided soon.

4. SIOP Europe Paediatric Oncology Course

Andishe Attarbashi, board member of SIOPE, and Reineke Schoot (former chair of Young SIOPE) are the initiators of the SIOPE course in paediatric haemato-oncology. The SIOP Europe Course in Paediatric Oncology is a unique 3-year long education and mentoring programme for fellows in paediatric haematology and oncology and junior faculty at academic medical centres across Europe and, exceptionally, non-European countries. It aims to support young and promising paediatric oncologists in the development of their careers.

The Course will take place annually and will consist of 3 modules, each lasting 4 days. Participants will attend one module per year and will receive CME accreditation per module and a SIOPE certificate after having completed all modules and passed a final exam.

Participants for Modules 1-3 (2022-2024) were already confirmed following a rigorous selection procedure. The application process for the next Modules (2025-2027) will open at the end of 2023.

4. The PCDC Data Commons Project

Coordinating on behalf of Young SIOPE: Reineke Schoot and Roelof van Ewijk

Involved Young SIOPE members: To be involved

The PCDC brings together clinical data from institutions around the world. Headquartered at the University of Chicago, the PCDC works with international leaders in paediatric cancers and the United States’ National Cancer Institute to develop and apply uniform clinical data standards that facilitate the collection, combination, and analysis of clinical paediatric cancer data. By harmonizing existing data and leading international efforts to standardize clinical data collection, the PCDC is making it possible to study larger sets of clinical paediatric cancer data and to connect these data with other types of data including genomic, imaging, and tissue availability data.

The aim of the project is to reimagine the clinical data life cycle creating new opportunities to accelerate paediatric cancer research and work toward cures.

Progress

On June 3 Young SIOPE members joined  the PCDC data commons webinar. Further steps towards active involvement of our Young SIOPE members are currently discussed. We aim to update you on short notice. If you are willing to be actively involved in this project please let us know.
