Gold September is a universally recognised occasion to raise awareness of childhood cancer and ‘shine the light’ on these young patients and their specific needs. Initiated by parents, patients, and survivors of childhood cancer at the grassroots level, the campaign has today become a broadly endorsed initiative with a prominent global presence.
 
In Europe, the organisations representing childhood cancer parents, patients, survivors, healthcare professionals, and academia once again marked the campaign through a dedicated policy event in cooperation with the MEPs Against Cancer Interest Group and ECL.
 
The purpose was to recognise the efforts and support of EU policymakers championing childhood cancer issues and to raise awareness of the achievements and future opportunities.
 
This year’s event focused on maximising the impact of childhood cancer actions outlined in Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and highlighting the importance of a synergistic approach with EU research programmes to achieve a transformational change for these young patients:
