EONS Magazine Issue on Cancer in Children and Adolescents

18/03/2015
EONSIn collaboration with SIOPE, a special issue of the EONS Magazine – the first of the year 2015 – has been entirely dedicated to paediatric oncology. SIOPE contributed to the EONS Magazine with an editorial – signed by Ms Samira Essiaf, SIOPE Secretary General – as well as the following articles:
  • 'A multi-professional partnership to improve childhood cancer care' (Giulia Petrarulo, SIOPE Office)
  • 'Survivorship Passport: a safe-conduct towards optimisation of long-term care' (Riccardo Haupt, ENCCA/PanCareSurFup partner)
  • 'The bright side of surviving cancer' (Neira Kameric, PPAC member and survivor advocate)
  • 'From bedside-to-bench-to-bedside: A journey from paediatric oncology nursing into basic research' (Sara Colomer-Lahiguera, SIOPE partner)
These articles comprehensively describe the fundamental and delicate role of nurses in the treatment, care and follow-up of young patients. Every day, experienced oncology nurses are indeed the main contact point for children and young adults, and their fundamental tasks include providing expert advice to patients’ families and exchanging key information and care recommendations with physicians. For all these reasons, we welcome very much this initiative from the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS), that chose this important theme for their first magazine issue this year.
