Special SIOP Europe & CCI Europe Webinar in the Context of the European Week Against Cancer

Recently, SIOP Europe and CCI Europe enthusiastically welcomed important EU developments, including Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the Cancer Mission and the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe which all contain actions of relevance for children and adolescents with cancer.

For this reason, SIOP Europe and CCI Europe advocate for keeping the momentum with emphasis on coordinated action across all relevant EU programmes and call for the set-up of a multi-stakeholder EU Childhood Cancer Advisory Board, which would be instrumental in supporting an organised action and fully realising the very ambitious EU agenda for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer across Europe.

This webinar will expand on the vision of an EU Childhood Cancer Advisory Board from the perspective of childhood cancer patients, parents, survivors, and academia.

Childhood Cancer Highlighted in the European Parliament’s BECA Resolution and the Statement from the Trio Presidency of the Council of the European Union

In February 2022, SIOP Europe and CCI Europe greeted the European Parliament vote in favour of the Resolution ‘Strengthening Europe in the fight against cancer – towards a comprehensive and coordinated strategy’, stemming from the work of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Beating Cancer (BECA), which contains a distinct set of policy recommendations for improving childhood cancer outcomes across Europe.

Also in February, the European paediatric cancer community was honoured to see childhood cancer highlighted in the Statement from the Trio Presidency of the Council of the EU in the context of the European Meetings of the French National Cancer Institute.

Market Access to New Anticancer Medicines for Children and Adolescents with Cancer in Europe

SIOP Europe is delighted to announce the publication of its manuscript on market access to new anticancer medicines for children and adolescents in the European Journal of Cancer on 27 February 2022. The International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD22) Policy Webinar on Health Data Sharing in Research

This year’s International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD, 15 February each year) was marked through a policy webinar organised by the European organisations representing professionals, parents, patients, and survivors in partnership with Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Loucas Fourlas (EPP, Cyprus) on 2 February 2022.

The event was informed by the results of a survey conducted among paediatric oncology professionals on the impact of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on childhood cancer research and presented 6 key recommendations to improve the health data-sharing landscape in Europe.

The survey findings and recommendations were discussed with the European Parliament, the European Commission, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), academia and patient representatives.
