News Release 13th International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD 2023) Policy Event in Brussels, Belgium
Brussels, 15 February – International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) 2023 was marked by the 13th edition of SIOP Europe’s flagship policy event in partnership with CCI Europe. Hosted by Member of the European Parliament Cindy Franssen (EPP, Belgium), the meeting brought together over 100 participants to address childhood cancer survivorship - a key dimension of the patient journey and an important focus area of European Union cancer policies.
ICCD 2023 featured childhood cancer advocates, professionals, policy-makers, industry and regulators. Discussions emphasised the importance of coordinated implementation of EU projects and commitments stemming from Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the European Parliament Resolution on Strengthening Europe in the fight against cancer (BECA), and the EU Mission on Cancer with its recent Conference on Young Cancer Survivors.

SIOP Europe and CCI Europe Call for Urgent Release of the Proposal of the Revised EU Pharmaceutical Legislation
The European childhood cancer community has been advocating for targeted changes to the regulatory framework on medicines for children and rare diseases since 2012. The European Commission is now set to unveil the proposal for the revision of the Pharmaceutical legislation – a long-awaited milestone of paramount importance and the potential to effectively boost innovation for young patients with cancer across Europe. However, the publication of the proposal was delayed several times. Most recently, it was announced for 29 March 2023, but the date has since moved to 26 April 2023. SIOP Europe ad CCI Europe have issued a joint statement expressing concerns on the postponement of the release of the proposal for revision of the EU Pharmaceutical legislation and calling for no further delays.

SIOPE-MAC Event for Gold September – Keeping Childhood Cancer High on the Policy Agenda
SIOP Europe and the MEPs Against Cancer (MAC) Group in partnership with Childhood Cancer International – Europe (CCI Europe) and the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL) are once more aiming to organise a joint policy event during Gold September to raise awareness and further place childhood cancer as a priority on the political agenda.
