SIOPE-MAC Policy Webinar for Gold September 2021: Call for an EU Childhood Cancer Advisory Board

In the light of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe, and the Recommendations for the Horizon Europe Mission on Cancer, SIOP Europe dedicated the special Gold September – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month policy event to the importance of coordinated childhood cancer actions across all relevant EU initiatives. The event was co-organised with the Members of the European Parliament Against Cancer (MAC) Interest group on 30 September 2021, virtually, with MEP Véronique Trillet-Lenoir (Renew Europe, France) as the host and in collaboration with CCI Europe, PanCare and the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL) as the MAC Secretariat.

The event gave an overview of measures and projects planned as part of the ongoing major EU initiatives in the field of childhood cancers, showed their complementarity, and presented the call of the European childhood cancer community for the creation of an overarching multistakeholder EU Childhood Cancer Advisory Board to support the synergetic implementation for the benefit of patients, survivors, and their families.

WHO Essential Medicines List for Children (EMLc) 2021 includes new Paediatric Cancer Indications and Medicines

A selection of essential medicines submitted by SIOP Europe was accepted to be included in the WHO EMLc (updated every two years). The SIOP Europe proposal identified novel links between the medicines and indications already included in the prior EMLc and added a previously absent disease and a selection of new agents.

SIOP Europe is grateful to see an increasing number of medicines for children with cancer recognised as essential within the WHO framework. We look forward to the opportunity of continuous dialogue and cooperation with the WHO and to keep contributing to the upcoming revisions of the EMLc.

Details regarding the newly added medicines and indications can be found here.

International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day (ICCD) Policy Webinar on 2 February 2022

This year’s event will be dedicated to the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on childhood cancer research. It will include the presentation of the SIOP Europe GDPR survey results with examples of changes to data sharing across Europe over the last four years and engage key stakeholders to elucidate the legislation and ways to achieve further progress.
