SIOP Europe Paediatric Palliative Care Working Group
After our launch at SIOP Europe’s 2022 Annual Meeting (we are pleased to say our session was one of the top rated and very well attended – thank you all for the interest!) we have been busy on these first few months of activity.
We are very pleased to have welcomed new members to our Working Group, from 9 European countries.
The Group has been especially focused on establishing the foundations for collaborative work across our areas of interest. These are our current projects:
- A position paper about the relevance of the integration of Paediatric Palliative Care (PPC) in Paediatric Oncology (PO). We are just finishing writing, creating figures has been a challenge
- A survey about perceptions and attitudes of paediatric oncologists towards PPC. We have been working with Dr Michael McNeill, at the St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital, to roll out in Europe a survey that’s been done in Eurasia and in Latin America. We are planning on having it distributed through NAPHOS, stay tuned for it to arrive in your email box sometime soon
- A Glossary of Terms to improve communication between PPC and PO. One of our members, Dr Lucia de Zen, from Italy, is involved in the development of this tool. We thought it so interesting that we suggested to have it translated to English (and then hopefully to many other European languages)
- Being part of the Faculty of the SIOP Europe Course in Paediatric Oncology
- Being part of the Scientific Committee of the upcoming SIOP Europe Annual Meeting 2023
