After the 1st year since the start of the SCARLET project, a process review was conducted by the European Commission.
The overall feedback valued the substantial progress of the project towards its objectives, as well as its major scientific achievements, notably the establishment of a population-based overview of childhood cancer survivors in Lithuania and the development of national datasets supporting survivorship research.
The European Commission review report also highlighted SCARLET’s efforts to strengthen research on different relevant areas such as acute lymphoblastic leukaemia survivorship through the integration of adult survivors into the ALL-STAR study framework and the development of interdisciplinary collaboration to support the transition from paediatric to adult care. Moreover, training activities and collaborations have enabled Lithuanian researchers to strengthen epidemiological analyses and to develop innovative approaches for monitoring early and late toxicities.
The dissemination activities of the project were also highly appreciated by the European Commission. The European Commission’s feedback on the first year of SCARLET project was very positive: SCARLET strengthens research excellence across Europe by facilitating collaboration and synergies. It also advances expertise and research capacity in the field of childhood cancer survivorship.
