Show me the way: POLARIS Updates and Milestones
Led by SIOP Europe, in cooperation with CCI Europe, POLARIS is a partnership project to develop a set of communication tools that ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) medical teams can use to explain ALL treatment protocols, medical terminology and investigations, guidance, and results to patients/caregivers in an easy-to-understand visual language. Here there are the latest updates and achievements from POLARIS.
What does POLARIS provide?
- In-clinic Toolkits: Visual boards to facilitate discussions about treatment protocols with patients and caregivers.
- Website (June 2023): Offers enhanced at-home support through a digital roadmap and additional information about illnesses and treatments.
- Personalized Access: Tailored content based on the patient's stage of treatment.
During the 2023-2024 the POLARIS AIEOP and ALLIC BFM visual boards have been delivered to 21 sites in 14 countries and translated into 12 different languages.
Survey Insights
A survey has been sent to healthcare professionals (HCPs) to gather feedback on POLARIS' impact. Early findings show:
- Increased Understanding: Families report better comprehension of medical procedures and treatment protocols.
- Reduced Anxiety: Parents feel less anxious about future medical procedures.
- Improved diet & nutrition plan compliance: POLARIS helps patients follow a proper diet before embarking on certain treatments
The piloting of the Altogether Protocol will include over 20 clinics in 16 countries. Materials and website content are now available in over 15 languages, ensuring accessibility for diverse communities.
