In the beginning of March, the Living Beyond Cancer: survivorship and late-effects course, a joint effort between PanCare, CCI-Europe, SIOPE and Young SIOPE, took place online and united healthcare professionals, patient/parent representatives and paediatric cancer survivors.
The second edition of this 2-day online course was successfully attended by an enthusiastic and active group of 40 selected participants that were able to learn and share their own stories and experience. We had a variety of candidates from different countries, allowing for a diverse conversation about the course theme.
This course was also meant to strengthen networking among healthcare practitioners/patient advocates, by joining current standards in care with their own experiences in the field. Together, we aimed to find answers to everyday challenges like: what are the late physical and psychosocial effects? What are their risks and contributing factors? When and how to talk about them?
With interactivity in mind, one of the highs of the course was its format, not only including theoretical sessions, but also live discussions, mentimeter quick-questions, and roundtables on which pros and cons about the follow-up and late-effect care of these patients in different settings and locations could be shared.
We were pleased to have such an enriching time with the participants and having been able to provide what is clearly a much-needed multidisciplinary talk between teams of late-effects specialists and patient advocates across Europe.
