Elena Botanina joined the SIOPE Office this summer, and officially started to work as the new Administrative Assistant of our Society on June 9th, 2016.
Born in Russia, Elena has a Bachelor Degree in Social work and has worked as a project worker in education centres from 2011 to 2013 in Saint-Petersburg. In 2013, she has decided to move abroad and to continue to orient her career in the non-profit sector. In Dublin, she spent “a very happy year” working as Volunteer Coordinator at the NGO ‘Friends of the Elderly Ireland’, and in 2014 Elena moved to Phnom Penh (Cambodia) to work as Education Officer for 6 months with the NGO ‘Save poor children in Asia’. In the same country, she also worked as a teacher in several schools in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and she started a social media-based project (still active today) for Russian people who are willing to volunteer and study abroad.
Finally, in December 2015 she moved to Brussels to find another career opportunity at SIOPE. About this new career role, Elena says: “it is very important for me that my everyday work, even in the office, has a positive impact on people’s lives. And thanks to my experience in administration and coordination within the Third sector, I was happy to find a vacancy that fulfils my goals and principles and gives me a possibility to use my skills and knowledge in the most useful way”.
