ExPO-r-NeT_NewThe project ExPO-r-Net – which addresses the existing health inequalities in Europe by building a large multinational network of European hospitals and institutions, facilitating the exchange of information between healthcare centres, allowing every case to be discussed by a dedicated disease-specific tumour board and the provision of accessible and high-quality diagnostics, treatments and care – received some very good news in the last period. The first one comes from the EU Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA), who approved the extension of the project’s duration until until August 31st, 2017. ExPO-r-Net will still be up and running for another six months, and its partners will have the opportunity to finalize all the different preparatory work in the coming months, discussing them at the next ExPO-r-Net biannual ExeCom Meeting on 30-31 March 2017 in Padua (Italy). CHAFEA is also responsible for the second good news: the recently submitted proposal for a European Reference Network (ERN) for paediatric oncology successfully passed the eligibility check, namely the first step of the ERN proposals’ evaluation by the European Commission. The outcome of the final decision on the approval of ERNs will be communicated towards the end of the year, and the approved ERNs are expected to be launched in 2017 (more information on the assessment will be shared in the coming months). ExPO-r-Net was also recently shortlisted for the European Health Award 2016, scoring very well and ending up among the only six shortlisted projects for this prestigious award. Presented at the Opening Plenary of the Gastein Health Forum 2016, ExPO-r-Net was also featured on the European Health Forum Gastein website and press release. These are all very encouraging results for this important project building a pilot European Reference Network (ERN) for Paediatric Oncology, rewarding the efforts made by project partners in the past years.
