The 7th SIOP Europe Annual Meeting, held in Glasgow from 4–7 May 2026, brought together 1,310 delegates from across Europe and beyond, reaffirming its position as a leading forum for advancing paediatric oncology research, clinical practice, and stakeholder engagement. The meeting provided an important opportunity to showcase scientific developments, strengthen multidisciplinary exchange, and foster dialogue among healthcare professionals, researchers, parents, patients, survivors, and industry partners.
Participation remained strongly European, with 90% of attendees based in Europe. SIOP Europe members, non-members and day-pass attendees accounted for 73% of participants, complemented by young oncologists (9%), parents, patients and survivors (9%), nurses and psychosocial professionals (9%), as well as international healthcare professionals and sponsors.
The meeting reflected the multidisciplinary nature of paediatric oncology, with delegates representing a broad range of professional backgrounds, including paediatric oncologists (48%), basic and translational researchers (7%), nurses (6%), paediatricians (4%), patient affairs advocates (4%), and radiation oncologists (3%).
The scientific programme delivered a comprehensive overview of current developments across the field. Eighteen European Clinical Trial Groups and nine SIOP Europe Working Groups contributed to the programme through open and joint sessions, highlighting ongoing research initiatives, clinical advances, and collaborative projects. In total, 125 sessions were organised, including four educational sessions, thirteen joint sessions, fifty-one open sessions, four plenary sessions, five satellite symposia, and twenty-one operational meetings.
The programme was structured around disease-specific themes, with the first half of the meeting primarily dedicated to liquid tumours and the latter half focusing on solid tumours. Daily plenary sessions addressed topics of broad relevance across paediatric oncology, creating opportunities for discussion on issues that cut across disease areas and professional disciplines.
A defining feature of the Annual Meeting remained the active involvement of parents, patients, and survivors through the ongoing partnership with CCI Europe. Their participation contributed valuable perspectives throughout the programme and reinforced the commitment to collaborative approaches in research, care, and policy development.
Engagement levels were consistently high throughout the four days, with numerous sessions reaching full capacity. Additional highlights included sixteen “Project in the Spotlight” presentations, a dedicated programme developed by the Nursing Working Group, and a series of activities organised by Young SIOPE, which supported professional development and networking among earlycareer specialists.
The scientific content was developed under the guidance of the Scientific Committee, comprising representatives from the European Clinical Trial Groups, SIOP Europe Working Groups, and the parent, patient, and survivor community. Their collective expertise ensured a balanced, high-quality programme that reflected the priorities and needs of the paediatric oncology community.
Feedback from participants highlighted the continued value of meeting in person to exchange knowledge, establish new collaborations, and advance shared goals. The strong attendance, active participation, and breadth of stakeholder engagement demonstrated the ongoing importance of the SIOP Europe Annual Meeting as a platform for driving progress in paediatric oncology across Europe.
