To ensure the best possible care and outcome for all children and young people with cancer in Europe, SIOPE establishes close collaborations with several European organisations representing the point of view of paediatric cancer patients and parents, survivors, paediatricians, adult oncology and rare disease advocates:
International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP
SIOPE is the continental branch of SIOP in Europe. Now fully independent, SIOPE and the international society have maintained a strong partnership and – each one within its geographical scope – regularly collaborate to advance the priorities of paediatric oncology and improve the quality-of-life of young people with cancer.
Childhood Cancer International - CCI
CCI is an umbrella organisation representing 177 parent organisations and survivor networks in 90 countries. Its European group is a forum for information exchange and interaction among European-wide parent support groups. SIOPE, patient and parent organisations are allied to ensure that children receive the best possible care at the time of diagnosis and beyond: read more in the section ‘Parents and Patients’ of the website.
CCI Europe is the European branch of Childhood Cancer International (CCI).
Innovative Therapies for Children with Cancer - ITCC
ITCC is a European group working to improve access to new drugs for children, also disseminating information on the ethical aspects of clinical research in children with life-threatening diseases. SIOPE collaborates with ITCC, especially as concerns the Paediatric Regulation, and parents, patients and their representatives are involved throughout the project.
European Cancer Organisation
The European Cancer Organisation aims to reduce the burden of cancer, improve outcomes and the quality of care for cancer patients, through multidisciplinarity and multiprofessionalism.
As the not-for-profit federation of member organisations working in cancer at a European level, the European Cancer Organisation convenes oncology professionals and patients to agree policy, advocate for positive change and speak up for the European cancer community.
European Forum for Good Clinical Practice – EFGCP
EFGCP is a non-profit organisation established by and for individuals with a professional involvement in the conduct of biomedical research. Its purpose is to promote good clinical practice and encourage the practice of common, high-quality standards in all stages of biomedical research throughout Europe. SIOPE is one of the EFGCP Institutional Members since several years, and several initiatives have been carried on jointly.
EURORDIS – Rare Diseases Europe
EURORDIS is a non-governmental patient-driven alliance of patient organisations representing 590 rare disease patient organisations in 54 countries covering over 4000 diseases. SIOPE is a partner of this very influential European organisation, and every year attends the Rare Disease Day event it organises.
The Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases European Parliament was established in February 2024 and brings together leading MEP’s in the EU health policy field and civil society organisations tackling cancers and rare disease. SIOPE is a leading organisation in the secretariat alongside the European Cancer Organisation (ECO) and EURORDIS – Rare Diseases Europe. To ensure the needs of children and young people with cancer are represented in the Intergroup, SIOPE will provide expertise on the evidence-based needs of the paediatric oncology community in Intergroup initiatives.
Regarding other organisations, we should suppress ECO. We do not have a formal partnership with them or memorandum of understanding.
