SIOPE Ambassador Network

The policy bridge between national paediatric oncology communities and the EU.

Launched in September 2024, the SIOPE Ambassador Network connects SIOPE members and Young SIOPE members across Europe with EU policy work. Ambassadors bring national insights to Brussels through our office and bring EU updates, opportunities, and actions back home.

Who are the Ambassadors?

  • Currently 57 Ambassadors in 30 countries (including Young SIOP Europe members)
  • 1–3 Ambassadors per country
  • Cross‑disciplinary: clinicians, researchers, parent/patient advocates

The Network complements national structures (NaPHOS) and links them to EU institutions.

What the Network does

Three main goals:

  • Inform, sharing timely EU policy updates, useful materials, and ad hoc meetings
  • Connectmatching national stakeholders with MEPs, Ministries, and EU platforms
  • Act, coordinating advocacy moments, events, and inputs to consultations

2025–2026 priorities (high level)

  • Pharmaceutical legislation revision: in final negotiations; expected to be concluded by the end of 2025
  • EU Budget (MFF 2028–2034): European Commission's proposal is out, negotiations to be continued in 2026
  • EU Biotech Actproposal expected late 2025; important to enabling framework for innovative therapies
  • Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan (EP review): to be finalised mid‑2026; recommendations shaping future cancer policy

We keep Ambassadors focused on timelines and entry points rather than technical details, so they can act when it matters.

How it works

  • Quarterly online catch‑ups (general updates, Q&A, one-on-one meetings)
  • Rapid updates around key milestones (email/Slack)
  • Shared resources: slide decks, briefings, minutes
  • Community spotlights: short slots for EU‑funded projects or policy‑relevant events

The Role of a SIOPE Ambassador

  • Be the national point of contact for EU childhood cancer policy
  • Share relevant country updates and needs back to SIOPE
  • Engage with national stakeholders (ministries of health) when EU milestones require it
  • Promote and participate in EU surveys and consultations relevant to paediatric oncology
