We are happy to share the newly published Recommendations on Qualitative Research and Scientific Methodology, one of the key outputs of the SCARLET project, funded by the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme.
The recommendations are grounded in the work of the Summer School on Qualitative Research and Scientific Methodology (30 June – 4 July 2025, KlaipÄ—da, Lithuania), where early-career researchers worked closely with experienced experts in pediatric oncology, medical psychology, and sociology.
What do the recommendations focus on?
They provide practical, patient-centred guidance on:
- Formulating meaningful and high-priority research questions
- Selecting appropriate qualitative and quantitative study designs
- Conducting interviews and exploring patient experiences
- Identifying and operationalising patient-reported outcomes
- Evaluating and disseminating research results
Designed for students, PhD candidates, and early-career researchers, the document supports high-quality survivorship research, helps avoid methodological pitfalls, and promotes effective use of research time.
