ABOUT ICCD

Currently in its 13th edition, the ICCD is an annual flagship conference to mark the International Childhood Cancer Day (15 February each year). It aims to unite all stakeholders to find new ways forward to foster progress in childhood cancers through EU policy, programmes and multi-stakeholder collaboration. The event regularly brings together between 80 and 100 participants with interest in EU health and research policy and related areas.

ICCD 2023 will focus on childhood cancer survivorship and the role of the EU, Member States, and multi-stakeholder collaborations in improving their health, quality of life, and well-being.

There are an estimated 500,000 survivors of childhood cancer in Europe. Many of them experience adverse late-occurring complications with considerable impact on their daily lives and participation in society. SIOP Europe and CCI Europe have been working together actively to address these issues with the support of targeted EU projects. Most recently, Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and Cancer Mission brought a sharp focus on childhood cancer including survivorship. The European Parliament BECA Resolution also put forward ambitious actions in this area to improve outcomes. Overall, the EU plays an important role in championing the childhood cancer agenda and young cancer survivors.

ICCD2023 will present programmes on childhood cancer survivorship enabled by EU support, outline existing priorities, and foster exchange on how to optimise current initiatives through multi-stakeholder cooperation.
