During September, and throughout the year, we invite you to join us and honour children and young people with cancer, their families and caregivers, healthcare professionals, survivors, children who lost their lives, and scientists dedicated to beating childhood cancer.
Every year, more than 35,000 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. Moreover, by 2020-2025 there will be nearly half a million childhood cancer survivors, which means we are likely to encounter these brave survivors in our everyday lives - perhaps even in our own communities or schools.
Each year we partner with various local initiatives to promote understanding and support. This year, SIOPE will be active in Slovenia, one of our member countries, where we will run a comprehensive campaign in schools, institutions and local organisations across the country.
Our campaign will focus on primary and secondary school students, offering engaging and age-appropriate educational activities. These activities aim to make the complex world of oncology accessible and interesting to young children. Through creative and interactive methods, students will have the opportunity to learn about childhood cancer, share messages of hope and contribute their own voices and ideas. It's important for us to raise awareness and empathise with these realities in order to create a safe environment. By promoting early awareness and understanding, we aim to inspire empathy and support from an early age, helping to build a more compassionate and informed community.
Follow along to see how our initiatives are developing this year and join us in making a meaningful impact.
