The Twinning in Research and Education to improve survival in Childhood Solid Tumours in Lithuania (TREL) project kicked off on 18 January 2021.

Funded by Horizon 2020, the aim of this 3-year project is to improve the survival of children with malignant tumours (central nervous system, neuroblastoma and kidney) in Lithuania by actively initiating scientific activities and sharing the knowledge with more experienced partners. This project is especially significant for specialists from VUL Santara clinics who will participate in the European Project as key coordinators for the first time.

During the TREL project’s first quarter, 3 multidisciplinary tumour boards with partners from the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and Princess Maxima Center for Pediatric Oncology were organised. These tumour boards are one of the most important twinning exercises envisaged within the project.

In the coming months, activities to achieve the project’s objectives of increased knowledge and skills sharing, fostering collaborative research and activities in clinical trials, implementation of the Survivorship Passport, training and communication will be initiated.
