SIOPE Photo Campaign in the European Parliament: Raising Awareness for Childhood Cancer

05/11/2024

In recognition of Gold September – Childhood Cancer Awareness MonthSIOP Europe, in partnership with CCI Europe, organized a successful photo campaign in the European Parliament, to shine a light on the critical issue of childhood cancer.

We were thrilled to have 23 MEPs from 10 different countries join us, proudly posing with our iconic gold ribbon and photo frame props to show their support for childhood cancer awareness. Their participation underscores the vital role that decision-makers play in raising awareness and driving progress for improved research, access to care, and better outcomes for children and adolescents affected by cancer across Europe.

Each year, 35,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer in Europe, and sadly, over 6,000 do not survive. While survival rates have improved, with nearly 80% of young patients surviving five years post-diagnosis, more than two-thirds of survivors continue to face long-term side effects and psychosocial challenges.

This photo campaign served as a powerful reminder that together, we can make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer. Policymakers, healthcare professionals, and advocates must continue to work together to promote initiatives that support equal access to treatment and research for all young cancer patients in Europe.
