13th International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) 2023 Policy Event in Brussels, Belgium

The European childhood cancer community will once more mark International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD, 15 February each year) through its flagship policy event kindly hosted by MEP Cindy Franssen (EPP, Belgium) on 8 February 2023, 13:00 – 15:00 CET in Brussels, Belgium.

ICCD 2023 will focus on the theme “Contributing to the childhood cancer survivorship agenda in Europe” and look at the initiatives undertaken with and for survivors of cancer affecting children and young people.

The agenda will be announced soon, and we warmly invite you to already explore the SIOPE website for more information and register by clicking here.

SIOP Europe's List of Essential Medicines for Children and Adolescents with Cancer in Europe Published in the Lancet Oncology

Building on the previous success of the SIOP Europe Access to Medicines Project – where new paediatric cancer medicines and tumour indications were crosslinked and added to the World Health Organisation Essential Medicines List for Children (EMLc) 2021, we are delighted to announce that SIOP Europe has published the first-ever standalone summary of anticancer medicines considered essential in the treatment of paediatric cancer in Europe in The Lancet Oncology.

SIOP Europe is grateful to see an increasing number of medicines for children with cancer recognised as essential. Thus, the European childhood cancer community looks forward to the opportunity of continued dialogue and cooperation with relevant stakeholders across Europe and is keen to keep helping in reducing inequalities in access to medicines for this undeserved population.

Access the SIOPE news release page and read more about the project here.

SIOP Europe Comment on Paediatric Oncology Infrastructure and Research in Europe

We are delighted to share with you an important comment on the Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres that was recently published in The Lancet Oncology as a response to the European Groundshot paper on Cancer Research.

This accompanying comment co-authored by Prof. Gilles Vassal (SIOP Europe Board Member) is the first public statement on the specificity of the pediatric oncology infrastructure and research in the current context of the European agenda.

Please access the comment here.

Going forward, SIOP Europe has just launched the OCEAN project (Organisation of Care and rEsearch for children with cANcer in Europe) to provide a more granular view of our sector. Thus, we will be happy to share the findings with you in due time!
