Following several COVID-related delays, we were finally able to hold the first module of the new SIOP Europe Course in Paediatric Oncology in person on 6-9 April 2022 in Maasmechelen, Belgium. Faculty and participants gathered for 4 days of learning, exchanging ideas, working in groups, quizzes, mentorship, networking and a bit of fun!
In small groups, participants discussed real-life cases and situations, as well as patient management. Topics such as genetic predisposition, nuclear medicine, communication with parents and patients, statistics, late effects, and essential medicines were also covered, as well as a highly entertaining talk on presentation skills.
All sessions were extremely interactive and preliminary feedback from both participants and faculty was extremely positive.

The SIOP Europe Course in Paediatric Oncology is a unique 3-year long education and mentoring programme for fellows in paediatric haematology and oncology which aims to support young and promising paediatric oncologists in the development of their careers.
We look forward to welcoming the participants to the second module in June 2023 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
