News from SIOP Europe Imaging Working Group

30/01/2023

As mentioned in the newsletter in October, the SIOPE Imaging Working Group was launched in Autumn 2022. Since then, the Steering committee members have met twice online discussing several topics related to the primary aim of the working group: a general improvement of diagnostic imaging and image-guided therapies in children with cancer, both in daily patient care as well as in clinical trials and other research, and including the introduction of new innovative imaging techniques and quality control issues relevant to the imaging community.

One of the topics that the Steering committee is currently exploring together with colleagues from the QUARTET initiative is the development and funding of a centralised digital imaging repository within the SIOPE framework for all children with cancer participating in European clinical trials, allowing for easily accessible storage of imaging for clinical as well as imaging research. Furthermore, the Steering committee is grateful that the scientific committee of the upcoming SIOPE Annual Meeting in Valencia has offered us the opportunity to organise an open session on Wednesday, May 10, 10:30-12:00 AM CET. This session will focus on the challenges and opportunities of imaging research in pediatric oncology, including image-guided interventions and therapies.

Last but not least, any colleague across Europe (radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, medical physicists and other imaging-related health professionals) involved in diagnostic imaging, and image-guided interventions and therapies in children with cancer are welcome to join the Imaging Working Group. So please, spread the word!
