Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases

The Intergroup on Cancer and Rare Diseases European Parliament was established in February 2024 and brings together leading MEP’s in the EU health policy field and civil society organisations tackling cancers and rare disease. SIOPE is a leading organisation in the secretariat alongside the European Cancer Organisation (ECO) and EURORDIS – Rare Diseases Europe. To ensure the needs of children and young people with cancer are represented in the Intergroup, SIOPE will provide expertise on the evidence-based needs of the paediatric oncology community in Intergroup initiatives

The Intergroup will build on the European Parliament’s political action and commitment, as well as broader EU initiatives like Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the EU Joint Action on Rare Cancers and the EU Joint Action on Rare Diseases. These efforts have prioritised cancer and rare diseases in the health agenda, highlighting the specific needs of those affected by cancer and rare diseases.

The Intergroup’s policy priorities will inform activities that will be carried out, such as European Parliament hearings, plenary meetings, and any engagement initiative with other EU institutions.
