Monika Grubliauskaitė, PhD student at Vilnius University Life Sciences Center visited the Princes Maxima Centrum (PMC) in Utrecht, Netherlands from 15 June – 2 July 2022.
Monika describes her secondment experience as “unbelievable”, describing not only all of the people she had the opportunity to meet, but also how amazing the PMC itself is, with each specialist, doctor, nurse or research department member having welcomed her in a relaxing, comfortable and, most importantly, and informative atmosphere.
An important benefit to share with and hopefully implement by the VULSK team were the lessons learned from meeting a fertility nurse specialist on how to start the dialogue with the patients or their representatives as well as learning about the processes and specialists involved in the fertility preservation process.
Monika also appreciated the importance of seeing first-hand how science and the clinic have to work closely together to get the best outcome for the patients.
Donatas Petroška is a pathologist at VULSK with an interest in neuropathology. Donatas visited the University Clinic of Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany from 20 June until 1 July 2022.
During his secondment, he particularly appreciated the opportunity to participate in the workflow of the routine diagnostic cases. His biggest challenge was the refinement of existing methods in his pathology laboratory (National Center of pathology).
The contacts with neuropathologists for potential scientific projects and consultation of routine diagnostic cases will be most helpful for VULSK in the future.
