Rolanda Nemaniene, MD, VULSK, visited Princess Máxima Center for Paediatric Oncology Utrecht, Netherland

Rolanda is a Paediatric Haematologist/Oncologist at the Center for Paediatric Oncology and Haematology integrated with the Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos, she is also the National coordinator of Lithuania in SIOP-RTSG Umbrella protocol.

During her secondment at The Princess Máxima Center (PMS) for Paediatric Oncology in Utrecht (Netherland) from 17 to 22 October 2022, Rolanda had the opportunity to be introduced to:

  • the diagnostic (radiology, pathology, radiotherapy, biology) and treatment methods applied in the UMBRELLA protocol
  • organoid therapy
  • liquid biopsies
  • scientific research activities
  • SIOP-RTSG electronic registration system (ALEA/ObTIMA) for patients to get involved in the "UMBRELLA" treatment protocol

She appreciated the exchange and knowledge sharing with the multidisciplinary team of the hosting center including radiologists, surgeons, biologists, and pathologists.

It was of great value to be able to gain first-hand knowledge of the state-of-the-art practice in renal tumour management, and Rolanda will ensure that her knowledge will be shared at VUSK.

Rolanda believes that collaborations with innovative research centres, like PMC, should be encouraged, she further added that "More accessible international collaboration will help improve the treatment and survival of Lithuania children afflicted with malignant tumours."
