Alice van Velzen

Alice van Velzen is a paediatric oncologist, that now works in Amsterdam at the Emma Children’s Hospital, after completing her fellowship in paediatric oncology at the Princess Máxima Centre in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
She went to the University of Amsterdam to get her medical degree, and after her studies she obtained a PhD in paediatric haematology (2016) and started her training as a paediatrician (2015-2020) both at the Amsterdam University Medical Centre. After this, she started her fellowship in paediatric oncology in 2021 in the Princess Máxima Centre, in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Since university she has had a strong interest for medical ethics, care for chronically ill and life-threatening/life-limiting conditions and end-of-life care as a part of that. Over the last couple years, she has worked closely with the comfort team in her hospital, as well as invested in training and education on this topic. She has been delighted and very excited to become a part of the Paediatric Palliative working group and very motivated to move this field forward.
